This weekend was the first ever official NYS Dancing Green Project and I must admit I am astounded by the overwhelming excitement for the project. We had 6,000+ observers, made headlines in the Ithaca Journal and even my dad danced! Sometimes I forget why I do this, but after the weekend it is crystal clear: Movement and Dance actually change the world. When I started this project I was interested in using movement to empower and connect communities around environmental issues. This weekend actually did much more…. laughter, fun, networking, community, exercise, SMILES, fully present, joy. This weekend we have another event and want as many dancers as possible. If you can’t make it, feel free to forward on to someone who can and let’s get the movement movement moving (it was too easy).

This weekend’s Figment Festival was a success. The dance was created post rain in Central Park around the theme of the oil spill. For those participating, the creation is always the best part! Then on Saturday: show time! Our peacocks symbolize the show and let the dancing momentum begin. Videos coming soon!

Why Dance?

Dancing means overcoming indolence. Thus it does not flatter one of man’s basic instincts. Dancing also brings release and I personally believe that man has crossed the threshold where indolence prevails over the desire for freedom and light, everywhere in each individual, but in the majority of people there is a dancer – a dancer who wants to be released.
